TRUCK BAN HITS AQUINO
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada Truck Ban Puts Aquino’s Power In Question according to an influential Japanese publication. Aquino’s economic miracle will be derailed if Estrada, whom he is trying to sabotage politically manages to slow the economy because of the ruck ban. Containers will be unable to get out of the docks. Goods cannot come in and out. It will make Estrada look more powerful than him. And now, with traffic becoming a mess, President Aquino is looking bad as the truck ban becomes a traffic mess. Not looking good.
Taste of Manila is Deliciously
Successful
I am shocked! And Happy!
The number of people who flocked to the Taste of Manila street festival is simply astounding. The organizers only expected around 2000-5000. City said around 20,000 came. I thought they were just going to close one northbound block of Bathurst from Wilson to Southborne Ave, the length of No-Frills parking lot but they closed it up to Allingham Gardens, around 400m, based on my search on google map. If they can keep this up, it will be Toronto’s answer to Mississauga’s Fiesta ng Kalayaan which has been going strong for 3 years now, if I am not mistaken.
Let us keep this festival going strong.
Mabuhay Festival is Colorful
or later. Independence Day is June 12 which fell on a Thursday this year. That is marked by flag-raising
by different organizations on different city halls, provincial and federal buildings. The visitor said that they hold the celebration on the day of Independence itself, that’s it. If that is the case, our summer will be so boring.

MRT Operator
The operator of the MRT that crashed suffered a heart attack when he heard that President Aquino wanted a second term. Apparently, the passengers went berserk when they heard the news of Aquino’s intention to run again so they went started kicking and destroying everything inside the train and swaying the train side to side. That is the other reason the train was derailed. The passengers who ran out of the MRT were jumping out of joy and sheer jubilation, not panic. We are still trying to confirm this new. Ehe. Sus Guinoo ni Marian Rivera.
My Life Is Over
I forgot my cellphone at home. To all the women trying to get hold of me, do not panic. I will call you back. Apparently, my voice full was full because were calling just to hear my voice. Unfortunately, because of this, the other women were not able to access my voice mail. Ehe, susmaryosep, ano ba itong nasabi ko?
Unfortunately, PIDC’s Mabuhay festival was also held on the same weekend. I was not able to cover this festival anymore. Ironically, while TM had it’s parade with the businesses wand associations holding their banners, Mabuhay also had a more traditional and colorful Flores de Mayo parade complete with costumes to add to those associations who joined the parade. Never mind that it’s already August, it was wonderful. PIDC should decide what date and place is their festival in 2015. I’ve heard they will go back to Harbourfront. That is a nightmare location. But then again, construction will probably finished because 2015 is the PanAm games. I am not sure if it will affect any of our festivals but the only location close to downtown for the PanAm games is at the CNE for the volleyball games between July 10-26 and August 7-15 for the Parapan Am Games.
All Summer long is OK
Like I’ve always said, we Filipinos use Independence Day as a reason to hold an event and stretch it the whole summer. Toronto Filipinos are the only ones who do it. Based on some reactions I have heard from Filipino visitors from other provinces or United States, they are surprised that we hold our celebration on the weekend, of even one or two months ahead

Mario Montenegro (born Roger Collin Macalalag; July 25, 1928 – August 27, 1988) was a Filipino film actor best known for his heroic leading roles.
Montenegro was born in Pagsanjan, Laguna to a Filipino father and a French mother.
Montenegro was a student at the University of the Philip- pines upon the invasion of the Philippines by Japan during World War II. At the age of fourteen, he joined the armed resis- tance against the Imperial Japanese Army as a member of the Hunters ROTC guerilla unit. He was only sixteen when he, along with the Hunters ROTC, participated in the famed raid on the Japanese internment camp at Los Baños, Laguna on February 23, 1945. He received multiple medals for distinction before he rejoined civilian life in 1946.
In 1949, Montenegro was cast in his first film role in the World War II drama Capas. The following year, he was cast by director Manuel Conde in his first leading role, in Apat na Alas (1950).
During the 1950s, Montenegro was among the mainstays
of LVN Pictures studio headed by Doña Sisang de Leon. He was often cast in costume dramas and action films, dabbling occasionally in comedy roles. He portrayed heroic leads in such historical films as Dagohoy (1953), Lapu-Lapu (1955), Kilabot ng Makiling (1959) and Alyas Sakay (1959). Through- out his career, Montenegro would be nominated for a total of three FAMAS acting awards, including two Best Actor nomina- tions.
As he aged, Montenegro found himself cast in character roles. Among his more notable later roles was in Mike de Leon’s Itim (1976), for which he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination from the Gawad Urian.
His last movie was Madonna: Ang Babaeng Ahas in 1988, but it was released posthumously in 1991.
Montenegro died of a heart attack on August 20, 1988 in Manila, Philippines.
