The Pope will fly to Tacloban on Jan. 17, 2015, and celebrate a Mass at the airport at 10 a.m., after which he will join 30 survivors of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) for lunch at the Archbishop’s Residence in Palo town.
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of the Catho- lic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, said Catholics must not wait for Pope Francis in order to live and share his mes- sage of mercy and compassion.
“Even now I invite our friends in the media to help us live the message of mercy and compassion even before the Pope arrives. So that when he arrives it will just be a fitting conclusion to the many offerings of mercy and compassion that we have already done,” he said in a post on Papalvisit.ph
“More important than where Pope Francis will go is where you will go to bring the message of mercy and compas- sion,” he said.
He said there were people asking where they could get tickets to get close to the Pope.
“And I answered by saying the face of Pope Francis you can see everywhere in the Philippines because where the poor are, where the needy are, where the suf- fering are, that is the face of Pope Francis and that is the face of Jesus Christ. [So] you don’t need tickets,” Villegas said.
Honor
One of the first three Filipino nurses who arrived in Toronto in 1959, Estela Kuhonta Bischof, was honored with a plaque and a bouquet at the Ms. Paraluman 2014 pageant. The event sponsored by the Filipino Centre Toronto (FCT) was held Saturday, November 22, at Rembrandt Banquet Hall in Scarborough, Toronto.
